Reception of these modes requires the Whistler Official Upgrade (WOU).Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface. This scanner is compatible with the following Trunking System Types and System Voices used in the RadioReference Database, of course you must verify that the scanner will cover the appropriate frequency range: 2GB microSD card (which also contains the Digital iScan software).I was able to copy and paste the known talkgroup ID alpha tags from the wiki into my PRO-668's software program and they now appear when that talkgroup comes up (display alternates between talkgroup ID number and the alpha tag).Functionally the same as the former GRE PSR-800 for the most part.Ĭan be changed / upgraded to the Whistler WS1080 with the Whistler Official Upgrade (WOU). Now that I finally have a DMR-capable scanner I can truly appreciate the wealth of information that is posted there. Without Eric's hard work and persistence with the necessary coding that was involved, the DMR update for the 3 scanners involved would not have been possible.Īlso Gary MUCH KUDOS to you for all of your hard work helping with building and updating the Industrial Communications MotoTRBO wiki. The hobby is lucky to have Eric, and we're especially lucky to have him here at Scan-NE. I don't have any of the scanners involved, so it's academic for me, but it's interesting watching the progression. Eric has done some great work on those projects. Garys wrote:I've been following the original thread with some interest. You can download the Whistler EZ Scan software for the WS1080 here. After loading the Whistler WS1080 firmware into your radio it "thinks" it is now a Whistler WS1080. One last note if you do update your PRO-18, PRO-668 or PSR-800 you will then have to use the Whistler EZ Scan PC program for the WS1080 to program your radio. I personally "converted" my PRO-668 into a WS1080 and then back to a PRO-668 multiple times when I was trying out the various Whistler CPU and DSP version combinations to see what would work in my PRO-668. You can always revert back to the "stock" CPU and DSP firmware versions for your particular scanner model at any time. Whistler WS1080 CPU Firmware versions of 3.9 and higher are reported to not work for DMR receive in the other 3 scanners at this time.įor those concerned about possibly "bricking" their scanner with this procedure, you really have nothing to worry about. The winning combination at this point for the PRO-668 appears to be Whistler WS1080 CPU Firmware version 3.8 along with Whistler WS1080 DSP Firmware version 3.0. I have personally updated my PRO-668 scanner to have DMR receive capability and it is working fine on both conventional DMR and DMR/MotoTRBO trunking. Apparently the hardware of all 4 of these scanners is VERY similar (although not identical) and that allows this "sharing" of some versions of the CPU and DSP firmware to work. The update procedure involves loading the CPU and DSP firmware versions that were publicly released for the Whistler WS1080 scanner into the other scanner models and that then allows DMR receive capability. If you are interested in updating any of these scanners for DMR receive (or adding Phase II to a PRO-18) you should give both of the following RR threads a very thorough read: In the case of the PRO-18 it apparently also adds P25 Phase II capability which it never had. I don't know if anyone here at SNE has been following the pertinent threads over at Radio Reference but it is now possible to add DMR receive capability to the Radio Shack PRO-18 and PRO-668 and the GRE PSR-800.
